О программе

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences offers innovative bachelor's programs based on the best practices of teachers in research, education and public service. In our studies, we study the processes of social and cultural life in various societies and time periods and ask the following questions: What does it mean to be human? What does it mean to live in society? Why do we behave the way we behave? How can we live together in this world? We offer undergraduate courses and programs in sociology and anthropology. We also participate in interdisciplinary programs for graduates at Nazarbayev University: Master of Eurasian Studies and Ph.D. in Eurasian Studies, conducting courses and overseeing student studies. The teaching staff of the department consists of more than 15 internationally recognized scientists with experience in various fields, which include sociology and anthropology. The courses offered by the department range from introductory courses in sociology, anthropology and sociological research methods to advanced courses that teach various methods of research and specialized subjects of sociology and anthropology: gender analysis, social linguistics, social policy analysis, criminology, biological and medical anthropology, archeology and others Our department offers students research opportunities, attracting them as scientific staff to conduct research at the faculty or controlling students' independent research (including offering the opportunity to get loans for research). In recent years, the program of sociology and anthropology includes the development and conduct of independent research projects, which culminate in undergraduate diplomas or a report on a study of community involvement. Our department appreciates the interests of students. With the support of the department, students of sociology and anthropology created and run the Sociological and Anthropological Student Association (CACA). SASA is an active and student-driven organization whose goal is to promote sociology and anthropology among the NU community and the general public. CASA creates a sense of shared identity and camaraderie among students of sociology and anthropology, linking them to NU graduates, and helping them with employment or training opportunities in graduate / doctoral programs. Our department maintains close relations with various organizations in Nur Sultan, including research, non-profit, government, international organizations and commercial companies, to offer students opportunities for communication and internships. Our department holds a series of lectures “Society and Culture”, which serve as a forum for scientists from and outside NU. They share their research and discuss relevant political and social issues.
