The main goal of the AUCA Sociology department is to develop students’ sociological imagination, which implies a more just society and which recognizes the individuals’ contribution to social production and the reproduction of fair and unjust practices and institutions. At the same time, students develop the critical skills necessary to conduct theoretically reasoned, methodologically rigorous and multifaceted analyzes of social phenomena. We offer students the opportunity to develop and apply these skills through research and learning activities.
- Be able to effectively engage with and apply their “sociological imagination” to think critically about the social world and what separates sociology from other social science disciplines;
- Understand the role of theory in the application of conceptual frameworks in the research process;
- Understand the role of evidence in the social sciences and the application of systematic empirical inquiry;
- Obtain sociological knowledge of core areas and substantive topics and the ability to think critically about them;
- Develop professional computer skills to find, create, apply sociological knowledge;
- Be able to think critically;
- Develop skills to communicate effectively.
